Ghia bodywork question

The upper edge of the inner fenders is welded to the edge of the trunk opening on the body panel. We are reconstructing both edges on my car as both were rotted and poorly repaired before. I wanted to know whether the overlap between the 2 panels is like in the upper sketch below or is it like the lower sketch?
