A question on the interior light from the doors. Should the interior light work once the door is open or does it only work with ignition key in the 1st position.
The dome rear light works as it should from wiper switch.
Thanks all Dave |

per the wiring diagram, the power source is the same terminal as feeds the horn. so if the horn works with only key on, then its the same. _________________ Fritz Custom Products

I guess, your electrical system is no more original. Is a ignition switch added or replaced?
Only Export models have the 2 door contact switches. If so, they are originally on terminal 30.
See owners manual. |

The electrical system is new but a repro vw loom kit which uses the original cloth type material was fitted. It is a deluxe model crotch cooler, originally from Sweden. It has been rebuilt utilising the original parts.
It have been rewired as Fritz has mentioned. As I have an early oval thought they may be the same, obviously not, Thank Fritz |

The dome light should illuminate with the key off. It is different from oval as in how it is wired. A split uses + positive power to complete the circuit and an oval uses - ground. Two wires from the wiper switch to each door switch should be + powered at all times. When the circuit is complete the other two wires from each door switch complete power to the terminal on the wiper switch which has the dome light wire attached. Oval switches work by completing the - ground circuit and the constant + is at the light itself. Split door switches have two terminals and later cars have one. |
