I am sending out my 1965 swing axle tranny to be rebuilt for a higher performance application. It is bolted to a 140hp Corvair engine in a kit car. I am considering either Mofoco, Rancho, or KCR transmissions. Would love to hear peoples opinions on shops.
Thanks

Try Geno Boyd, race, and stock transmissions, been at it for years and did a few for me, old school and reasonable.

I bought a rebuilt transmission for my 1970 from MoFoCo in 2018, it's been fine. MoFoCo claims in their literature that every rebuilt transmission is run in a vehicle to test it, I believe in what they state. MoFoCo also did not require a core to be shipped back to them; one must be wary or trustful that a rebuilder will state that their core is fine....

I'm in Arizona and a local transmission rebuilder with a good recommendation was like 3 months behind at that time, plus I would've needed to drop off my transmission there (100 miles away) and wait.

Any rebuilders in Florida???

Cusser, what was the name of the VW transmission shop here in PHX? Been there forever. He's always a few months behind but does great work. I think the owners name is Bill?

Metalcraft in Sanger California. Scott is an awesome builder, building for high performance applications!

I highly recommend him!

Arizona Transaxle. https://aztransaxle.com/ 3863 N. 38th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85019 (602) 269-1444

I believe gt1953 on this forum had his transmission done by them. For me, I didn't want to wait that long, or remove my transmission in Prescott area and drive it to Phoenix west side to drop off, then pick it up a few months later and take back to Prescott to install.

That's it! They did a bay transmission for me and did a great job. The owner Bill I think was a super nice guy as well.
Thanks Cusser

There are quite a few reputable transmission rebuilders out there. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the well known ones. You might look for one close to you as you will have to ship the unit out.

Yes it is AZ transaxle....at the time they were very back logged...so I took it to
Don's Bus Box Donson Performance. The trans had locked up, no fwd no shifting no nothing. Glad I had a IRS car. remove the axles and towed it. He did have rebuilt units ready to R&R. I would recommend them as well.

I think Fisher Buggies in Tampa gets their Transaxles from Rancho and always has them in stock. Not sure where you are in Florida, this might be a good option.
