ARE there any LED replacement bulbs for a 6V VW that can be "plug and play"? Headlights and taillights in particular that would improve the lumens and appear to be a vintage color of light? Or perhaps a halogen that is safe to use? |

Seth i am looking to add those to my 56. I dont want to destroy the original lights though. So should i order Chips 6volt LEDS. and then find other lenses and older inner housings so i dont ruin the original ones? Whats the best way not to hack the original wiring etc? |
You could find others, but you don't ruin the original parts.. the originals are a glass lens stuck to the reflector with some butyl goop, and there is a plastic diffuser in the middle. I carefully separated them, and put the LED board where the plastic diffuser was, and passed the wires out the bulb opening in the reflector. Stuck it back together with a few drops of clear silicone and done! Chip includes some nice set screw connectors so you won't have to cut stock wiring...
I'll look back in my pics to see if I have some that show the install better. _________________ modok wrote:

If I wanted to, I could have this returned to a stock bulb holder in 10 minutes. _________________ modok wrote:

I've had the same set up from Chip for about 5 years now. Excellent product. Yes you do have to remove the diffuser but other than that, it's easy. And yes, you could convert them back to original in about 20 minutes if you had to. _________________ John

Don, can you post a link to the LED headlights you got from an Ebay seller? Are they 6 V plug and play? |
