Hi Everyone,
I would like to switch to a black distributor cap on my MSD distributor.
From what I know, MSD offers only red an grey
Are Pertronix or Magnaspark an option? Are they a good and tight fit?
I read that painting the cap is not a good idea as it might generate misfires and scratches the paint too easily.
Thanks,
Phil |

You should be able to use a magnaspark cap with it. I'd also use the magnaspark rotor which has a wider tip to help with rotor phasing. _________________ 74 Super

Go to a Napa store. It is a cap for a 4 cyl. Ford, think Escort, Ranger ect. The last few I have bought have been a very dark grey, almost black. |

Thanks for your replies.
Are the magnaspark caps a tight fit ? I read somewhere but I might have the wrong manufacturer in mind, that Magnaspark caps are a little loose which would probably impact ignition. |

The Magnaspark caps are not a great fit, light duty, and dont have alot of spark crossover protection compared to say a Napa Echlicn cap _________________ [email protected] MPH 1/4 Mile & 8.1 @ 83.7MPH in 1/8 Mile with Mild Type 1 VW Mag Case 2234cc commuter engine in stock weight bug w/only .491 total lift(CB2292 Cam), 42x37 heads, 48idf's, Street tires, Belt on, Mufflers, Pump gas, video of the run here: https://youtu.be/M3SPqMOKAOg

I painted my Magnaspark cap. Clear coated it too.
Nothing bad to report. _________________ Volkswagen!
