My Son and I are happy to have this November of 1947 Beetle brought to us to address repairs/modifications to the body made over the years. While looking closer when addressing minor body modifications, Having decades of unknown history it was no surprise to find the very typical front and rear clip have been removed and replaced with somewhat questionable materials and repair standards. We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to bring this Beetle back to its Original luster. We will be using top shelf panels from all the usual suspects such as Wolf, Mika and Tomasz. All Original precious metals will be soured from worthy 50's Beetles addressing any and all details to make them '47 specific . We will be looking forward to the support and feedback moving forward. The last thread we did in this forum was a very pleasant experience and we greatly appreciated all the help with details and positive feedback.
We started with the removal of any sub standard repairs and assessed the parts we will need. While we get those parts ordered and on their way we addressed the notches that where made into the rear wheel house. Here is some photos of where we are today.

Sweet! I loved your last thread though your dirty, unorganized shop made it tough to view the pictures at times..
Looking forward to this one! _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Thanks for following along fellas. This should be a fun one. I will leave some stuff laying on the ground for you guys once and a while hehe.
Here is a shot of the front as it sits today. We are really looking forward to using the high quality 40's sheet metal that is being reproduced these days by some extremely talented (And dedicated to the Kraft) individuals.

For what it's worth I could care less how messy your shop is. I was recently in a shop that you could barely walk through, stuff piled everywhere. The shop specializes in XK-E's and is known all over the country and they do excellent work. Only thing important is what goes out the door. |

For full disclosure, my comment was a joke from watching his last thread. His shop is immaculately clean and organized. It was very impressive to see that. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

What a fantastic photo. Thanks for sharing Mika. It's folks like you that make threads like this so enjoyable for everyone. Not only from the A1 parts you produce but the wealth of knowledge you are openly willing to share. The industry is lucky to have you. Here is one I have
Unfortunately that area on the car was cutout out one point in it's lifetime and was replaced with a flat piece of sheet metal. I will be sourcing 50's front wheel house panels as a starting point. Thanks again Mika. _________________ β Believe In The Power Of Positive Thinking β

Look forward to seeing this play out. It would also be interesting to see the bad spots before they were cut out. _________________ Chris

lit looks like that the double layer metal patches are missing at the blue one.
They shall sit there:
I am not sure when they started. But I have a early 1949 and it still has them. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Another reason I love this forum. Thank you for bringing that up....
I have this photo I took recently doing research of the somewhat odd doubler they used. Can you guys confirm this in fact should be present on this 47.
Thanks in advance guys.

I would guess it should be there.
But as I said. I do not know when they started with it.
Somebody should know.

The photo I posted was of a 47 and with this being a Nov 47 it was looking like I maybe adding this detail back to the beetle. (Just seemed so odd to me) From what I saw it was just a copy of the contours in that area and spot welded on They looked like sections cut off another panel and put on there. Possibly they descovered it was a crumple zone and they used the big press to stamp that section. Or maybes they took them off cars in the bone yard. Very interesting how they came about doing that. Definitely looks like a after thought based on performance discoveries. Lol. IDK. I'm just making stuff up now.
Who's got another theory. ? _________________ β Believe In The Power Of Positive Thinking β

I have no idea why they thought this area should be reinforced.
But those panels stayed up to at least mid of 1949.
Maybe dropped with the bigger tank? _________________ Master of my domain! |

Thank you following along, we appreciate it. We are looking forward to this as well.
Here is a photo where you can see the nose is diving down considerably and you can also see the flat sheet metal used to patch the wheel house.
