The Safari and I winter in Crystal River, Florida. I just changed out the tie rods, steering damper, and steering box. I measured the new tie rods against the old ones to try and keep the caster the same, and am adjusting the camber to be less negative based on the wear pattern of the front tires, but want to have info on a nearby alignment shop so I can let a pro set the car up if it is way off. Anyone got a recommendation? |

Hello,
Here is alignment information I found that the shop should use.

Modern Alignment machines from Hunter have the Specs for the thing in it.
A shop with a Hunter Alignment machine should be able to do it but they may not have a tool to fit the camber adjusters on hand. If you own one it may be necessary to bring it to them it's kind of an unusual design for most shops. Other then the caster adjustments they should be able to handle it with the machine that most shops are using and the tools they should have for everyday vehicles. |

Ok, more questions about front alignment; as I wrote above I replaced the tie rods and steering box as well as the steering damper. I set the tie rods to as close to the length of the old rods as I could. This morning, while still on the jackstands, I tested the lock-to-lock distance. Starting with the wheels pointing straight ahead I turned the steering wheel to the left and went 11/4 turns until I hit lock. Starting again with the wheels pointing straight ahead I turned right 1 3/4 turns to lock. I would assume that the distance should be the same regardless which way I am turning. Is that correct? The Pittman arm looks to be centered with the wheels pointing straight but that's just an eyeball estimate. |

Take a look at the travel limiting bolts. |
