Hello all!
I am looking for help from anyone who wants to help me in a simple data gathering project and I thought this would be the best place to ask as I have been coming here for decades looking for help and I've always got it from the many helpful on The Samba!

Kinda strange but I just need the measurements of the depth of fuel tanks in these models of air cooled VW's and Porsche. Bus tanks will have to be measured in a tank that is out of the bus of course Smile
'62-77 Type 1
'62-71 Type 2
'62-73 Type 3
'56-74 Ghia
Type 181 '71-80
Porsche:
'70-76 914
356
911
912

There is a picture attached that shows where the measurement location on most tanks will be, in the center/top of the tank. The measurement is at the fuel sender mounting hole with the 5 mounting screws. So the ruler or tape would go straight down to the bottom of the tank and the top measurement would be flush with the top of the mounting hole.

Hopefully you have a tape measure you don't mind getting gas on! lol

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

The filler necks of busses go out to the side, and are slanted or curved in various ways. The filler cap on my '71 bus sits at an angle to the vertical.

Neither is the bottom of the tank "flat", although as I recall the outlet is at the lowest point. Unlike some other vehicles I've had.

Also, I can probably get you measurments for "type 4" gas tanks as well....which should be on your list.

They have a fairly lat top and a side fill neck. Ray

Thanks @kreemoweet and raygreenwood for your responses!! So cool.. But as I'm reading your posts I realized I completely screwed up. I was thinking of another older tank issue that I actually got figured out. So if you have a look at my EDITED original post above I think it will make A LOT more sense now! lol
I hope that I didn't waste your time and I hope this will be something that will be a lot easier for you all to perhaps help me out.
I really appreciate your help!

Thanks all.

Not at all! I am assuming you are trying to produce sending units! Great!

Type 4 cars use a cylinder/tube style sending unit that looks just like a type 3 sending unit. Same bolt pattern. I think the length may be slightly longer.
