I have searched and many recommend the CB 2280 or Engle W90 cam for mild builds. How compatible are they on a fully automatic 1971 T3 sqbk? Plans are to build an 1835 w/92mm TW cylinders. Carbs are 34ICT's. Ignition is a german 009. Runs fine but just has no get-up-and-go... Would the stock cam be acceptable due to vacuum requirements? Open to suggestions...
Forget to add: stock heads and stock muffler will be used. _________________ 1967 Deluxe Sedan

first suggestion is to make sure you are getting full throttle at the carbs. Have someone hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and you play with the linkage and make sure you are getting full throttle. I'd almost bet you aren't. I don't like ICT's but I have had them on a very stock 1600dp squareback and it scooted just fine, it could roast the tires (once I fixed it so I was getting full throttle - DOH!)
the cam needs to be stock for an autostick but not for your full automatic. As far as I know you can go pretty wild, There used to be some pretty fast drag cars using that trans.
someone here will chime in on what carbs work best with dual single barrels _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I think the question is confusing, OP says “ plans are to build an 1835”… “ then says “runs fine just has no get up and go”.
So is this built or a plan to build or am i missing something ? _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? " - clonebug

Sorry for any confusion... Plans are for upping to 1835 but cam choice is throwing me. Do I stay with the stock cam for vacuum reasons or is it safe to up it a bit. It is a full auto and I have never dealt with one before.
I have the P & C's now, just not the cam/lifters. _________________ 1967 Deluxe Sedan

My automatic Fastback has a 1776 running stock D-jet with a Web 86 cam and stock heater boxes with 1 3/8" header. Even with the automatic it has decent get up and go, especially when shifting manually through the gears at 5000 rpms. In my case the cam size is limited by the D-jet, with carbs you could probably go bigger. _________________ Kenneth

thanks for the clarification.
still a lot of variables for why the engine is lazy. you know compression?
I wont use a stock cam for hardly anything. ( I did just build a stock 1600 so I use an AMR super charger on it but even that has ratio's on it) if you dont want to sling it high rpms pick a cam with lower duration, and higher lift.
and make sure you run decent compression _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? " - clonebug
