I didn't see any recent information on the crankcase breather pipe (part number 022103474A). I wanted to share my recent experience.

This part is NLA. I was not able to find a like replacement, from either VW or other german manufacturers.

Here's a picture of what it is supposed to look like:

Here is what mine looks like (not pretty). You can see the hose section is cracked (with an attempted repair with silicon).

Looking at it closer, I realized it is made up of 3 barbed fittings, and hose. I used a utility knife to cut the hose off. Go gentle - the hose was so brittle it only took 3-4 passes to cut through:

The barbed fittings themselves were good shape, it was only the hose that was damaged. I did do some searching, and was able to find the 90 degree elbow fitting (Dorman part number 800-049). They also have a straight fitting (I believe 800-037). I was not able to find the middle connector with the vacuum line. These fittings use 19mm barbs, for future reference.

I assembled it using 5/8" heater hose (16mm) I wanted a tight fit that would not come apart. Being the barbs are plastic, I did not want to put a hose clamp on them and risk them breaking.

In order to assemble, soak the hose in boiling water for about a minute. Grease up the barb fittings (I used a food safe grease I use on water filter fittings - available at the HW store). Here's the finished hose

Looks good, but long term I don't think heater hose will be very happy with the oil mist. Maybe replace with fuel rated hose if everything works OK? Cheers

Thx! Yes, I have no idea how it will hold up long term.
