Wrapping up an already started preservation look project. Original seats and paint. Already had its engine rebuilt, new brakes, springs, most moving parts gone through.
Ive tuned the engine, went through every door mechanism, re pinned all the locks, clear por15 on the floor pans and and rust that isnt an issue yet. Finished electrical, saw that everything was accounted for and working..
i need a new sigla slider, & both sliders are seized up:/

Took off original seats material to fix large rips and missing chunks. Took out rusted springs and replaced them. I sewed in the ripping thread from all places, glued new vinyl under the old stuff just so if it were to rip again new material is underneath.
The seat padding from ww is not usable for putting back original material. Its too puffy and will make everything rip. If using original material, then original padding is needed. So i got cotton batting and burlap which worked. Now onto the headliner _________________ www.tonydegrazia.com

Engine and trans is rebuilt and original, i really want to cut out that broken fuel tank sender and replace with a non tube style so i dont have to take out the engine. _________________ www.tonydegrazia.com

Really nice preservation, the roof fade is perfection.
I admire your effort saving the interior, especially the seat covers. _________________ WANTED:

I wouldn't clear over anything. A high quality polish/wax only.
You can spot clear coat a mile away and it just doesn't look right over paint. Touching up over rust, yes, but not over paint. _________________ WANTED:

I agree. And was thinking of paint blending on all spots id like redone. Some areas on the roof that are just metal, i may spray sand green like the palm wore off or just leave it metal. And the whole roof gutter lip looks so cool discolored and chipped, but the top side could all use some clear or palm brushed in there. Any clear coat id use id wetsand the sheen off, and rubbing compound to match the sheen around it. _________________ www.tonydegrazia.com

Kinda a given if you have a bus!
Was it originally a 6 pop out bus? _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

The shine on the original paint in the second and third picture of your first post is very impressive. Nice work on the interior too. PGSG is such a pretty and stylish colourscheme. |
