|
|
I saw double door create a thread this morning about this but I wanted to give as much of the details of the build, the mark, the vendors that helped out, the build team, when it airs and the such.
The build happened on October 12th - October 19th
The prank was pulled on a gentleman some or most of you know hims as Hot Dog Fred.
The prank was not a theft as normal but as a TV commercial gone bad with Chip coming out and congratulating HDF.
The bus was a 1964 21 window bus with original paint (i could be wrong) some primer and rust that really couldn't be seen until it was blasted, driver and to my knowledge, it was a driver that used to pull a hot dog cart to the different VW shows, Fred, feel free to chime in and add in here.
As you know or you dont know, they build a vehicle in 8 days, from tear down to pinstripes and reveal.
The Builders on the build besides the a-team are
Geoff & Laurie from Canada Hot rods, formally of Air Speed Parts, These guys built the Hot Rod Heb (brown) that was on the cover of just about every VW mag. This is the second time that they have been on the show.
Mark from Wolfsburg West, He was a huge asset to this build, I hope he is not as stressed as he was there on friday, lol.
Pete from Airkewld, We handled the suspension portion of the build
Paul Ioozio , He is doing the Orange Smoothie Project in the T-3 section, He has also been on the show before.
More to added once i recall everything.
Companies who helped out on the build
Wagenswest www.wagenswest.com
Wolfgang International www.wolfgangint.com
Vee Dub Parts Unlimited www.vwparts.net
Buggyworld www.buggyworld.com
F & J Body Shop
Airkewld www.airkewld.com
Wolfsburg West www.wolfsburgwest.com
More to be listed as I recall
As far as pictures, I or anyone that was on the build team, can not show pictures until it airs. But we will post what we have as soon as we can.
As far as when it airs, we were told late Feb, early April. A big window, but they say depending on how the reruns do, they do not show the new ones until the other phase out.
On a personal note, Chip is very down to earth. I though he would be cocky, but I was completely wrong. Same with the build team, very cool and they all bust there ass. The build was done with all the same people Chip uses on his riddler award winners so corners were not cut as some of you probably expect. Lots of cool custom touches were done but the purist might think otherwise. I was stoked to be a part of it as its probably not going to happen again as far as a vw on the show again, but you never know. More info later. Thanks guys!
Also, I am forwarding this thread address to the producers, build team and suppliers so they can all be in the loop. see ya. _________________ FAQ - https://airkewld.com/frequently-asked-questions-faq/

its pretty bad when the people who are working on the car don't even know what year it is. _________________ .

From my take on it, The producers asked a couple different people on it and both came up with Fred. So in their world majority rules. As far as marketing, wait to you see the show, and yes that was some part of it as well. _________________ FAQ - https://airkewld.com/frequently-asked-questions-faq/

He is well known and like, They thought more people would be happy for him if thats what he wanted, they didnt just take the bus without his knowledge so he had his say. _________________

Thank god it wasn't "whore my ride"... imagine if they (the pimps) "stole" his ride (again).. and proceeded to hack it into a HDF cart.... (with 2 chill signs, ketchup windshield washer dispensers, cut away the bellypans to facilitate the "under car" 50" pasma, 20"'s, etc.)

a classy car builder with a tv show and a group of guys getting paid to do stupid things to cars on a tv show is the difference between what most adults can enjoy and watch compared to a bunch of kids who want more BASS or watch music videos.
Overhaulin, Rides I will watch before PMR IMO. _________________ FAQ - https://airkewld.com/frequently-asked-questions-faq/

You mean he wasn't born the son of a sharecropper whose dad died when he was 3 so he had to miss school and start selling hot dogs out of a vw bus that he built from parts gathered on the glass strewn playground where he raised himself eating rats and stray cats?
That's the minimum criteria for being overhauled, or so it seems when they start the crying sequence at the end of the show.
Regardless, it rocks for him. I wish they'd do mine. |

Yup. And overhaulin' always does it right, even if it's not you're style or taste. If a "show" is doing your car, then OH is the one to do it. |

i personally would not let them touch or look at my $25 bus.<--- period. i am not a purist either. i saw a drawing of it and spy photos. have they figured out the year of his bus yet? he cannot sell or scrap it or paint it or anything to it for a period of 1 year. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017
