hi all
does anyone know part numbers/availability of the centrelink track/tie rod and steering damper please.
centre swction of above.
is it the same as any other VW's ?

The center tie rod was only ever made by one company and they are still fairly readily available.
The part # to look for is TRW DS 858. They can still be found for about $45 to $75.
The VW part # is 411 417 353 C
The problem is that the inner nylon was defective from dy 1. Once the outer seals get any moisture past them the nylon rots from the inside (it was old school nylon 6).
You an rebuild them with brass/bronze for cheap. See this link:

That being said, if you just need to get going, get an NOS one and drive it for 30k miles...pull it loose, check it for play. If it has no play, drive it some more. When it finally craps out (usually about 50k miles) you can rebuild it then.
