2024 Type 3 Rally / Cayucos, CA / October 3-6

Great news, everyone...

We are heading back to the Borradori Garage for the 2024 Type 3 Rally! Join us in Cayucos, CA from October 3rd-6th for another epic central California coast weekend. As usual, this is a Type 3 only event! All Type 3s from 1961 to 1973 are welcome. Whether it's stock, custom, restored, or your daily driver, be there! If it's a Brazilian Type 3 or a Type 3 based dune buggy or kit car, be there!

Like previous years, there's no cost to participate other than gas, food, and lodging. There is no host hotel, so you are on your own to find a place to stay. Just make sure you find a spot in that area.

We have more details in the works that we'll share shortly, but I just wanted to share this initial post so people can mark their calendars and start to make arrangements.

I don't know if this is possible, but it would sure be cool to find a cooperative VW dealer who will let you park these in his showroom, and have period-dressed customers posed for some glamour shots! Maybe a repro of old marketing posters on the wall or on stands.

A smart dealer will see the marketing angle this has for him!

This was from when I was scouting out routes for the 2017 Rally. This was the location where we sent 1/2 of the cars one direction and the other half the other way.

It seems like it's a long time away BUT, don't hesitate to make reservations now!
Hotels , motels, Airbnbs all fill up quicks. Morro Bay has more reasonable rates than Cayucos, and isn't too far away. San Luis Obispo is a little too far away (I think). If you want to camp, the Bella Vista has RV and some tent sites. Or Morro Strand State Park is close (State Park reservations can only be made 6 months before the arrival date)

I remember my dad and I camped at the Bella Vista for the 2017 Rally. It just got a little chilly at night but it had warm showers, prices were good for a tent camping spot, and it was practically right across from the Borradori Garage.

A bit early to plan caravans, but I'm in for those heading up the 101 though the Ventura area.

I have high hopes that we will see not one, but two T34 convertibles for the first time in HISTORY!!!
