New issue. My EVC had a crappy aftermarket stereo that would work fine sometime and would drop sound sometimes (but never lose power or settings).
This winter I replaced it with a Boss system with CarPlay. It worked great all winter in the garage.
Yesterday I drove it out of the garage listening to the radio. Next time I started it there was no sound. Power work, car play works, but no sound from anything.
Anyone encountered this? I’m wondering if there’s an amp or “ module” somewhere that’s failing. It seems odd to me that all the speakers go silent at once.

Sure "sounds" like loose speaker wires.
Did you replace your speakers at the same time as the stereo? The stock speakers (if they are still intact) were really lousy.
In my van, the way Winnebago connected the speaker wires to the stock Sony stereo was hilariously bad. If you have relied on the previous plug/harness (rather than cutting back to the speaker wires), that might be one place to check. _________________ David

I thought that but it seems odd they would ALL go out at once. I will inspect.
Just to verify, there is no external amp or module that could be failing? _________________ 1984 Vanagon 1.9/4 speed

I purchased my 2002 MV second hand and it already had an aftermarket alpine head unit. Mine also cuts out, speakers lose sound by power remains to the head unit. Doesn't matter if it is SiriusXM or usb, the sound cuts off.
What I found helps prevent this is from happening is keeping the volume under level 15. Anything more and it cuts out. My guess is I either have a wiring issue, or the stock amp is overheating? I'm replacing my speakers as I go, just did the rear, will replace the front when I can find the correct size. I will replace the head unit last(begrudgingly since it has free siriusXM). |

Finally found some time to dig into this. I’ve discovered when I unplug the harness to the front speakers, the rears work great (well, as designed). Plug it back in and all sound is gone.
I can’t figure why this would happen. Like I mentioned, they worked before.
Any ideas? _________________ 1984 Vanagon 1.9/4 speed

It’s the loom in the driver’s door. When I wiggle that, it cuts in and out. I’m not looking forward to sorting this. Any tips or suggestions are welcome. _________________ 1984 Vanagon 1.9/4 speed
