I have this VW logoed three position (off-parking lights-driving lights) dimmer headlight switch that I have never seen before. What for is it exactly? Thanks for any input!

following to see the answer. I have a 53 oval with a later model headlight switch or at least I think so from what I've read. I've never seen the supposed correct one so don't know what to look for. _________________ Matthew Tolbert

That’s Pre ‘59 Type II. Short mounting tab is the give away. 1954-57 Beetle has longer mounting tab. |
That´s going to be an interesting discussion...thanks to all for the input.
RareAir, please have a look to this foto. First in the row is the switch we are discussing. Second is a switch with the longer mounting tab. You can see that the attachment place is exatly in the same position on both. Seen that the "unknown" switch is a beetle switch, what do you think?
Last in the row I put a short tab switch for reference.
BTW how does a Zwitter headlight switch look?

In Rare Air's defense I would have guessed the same based on the photo provided. Now that we have seen the bracket in all its glory I'll have to say that I've not seen one like that, Bracket almost looks homemade. _________________ Roads Scholar

A Zwitter headlight switch is rectangular, with terminals exiting topside..... opposite of its long attachment bracket. _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"

In other words a bit like a 1968 switch but with screw terminals. _________________ Roads Scholar

I have a switch like this in my early Oval October 1953.
Maybe it's the same as in a Zwitter, but I'm not sure.

I couldn´t find any manufacturer´s logo except the VW logo. I also thought already that this must have come from a second source manufacturer who has his own design (like BOSCH starters versus the far more rarer Garbe Lahmeyer weird design starters, or BOSCH distributors versus Garbe Lahmeyer).
The switch or it´s latch certainly is not a homemade part. |

Hey team. I have one exactly the same as the original poster posted about. I'm not sure what it's from. I would really like to know too. Is there any confirmation? Early oval? I searched pre 59 type 2 but didn't look the same. Thank you for anyone who can confirm _________________ 1966 Ambulance Kombi Turned Dormobile Camper

I have one of these also, it came out of the remains of a 53 Oval. |
