On a 1965 ghia was the the Voltage regulator on top of the dynamo or was it elsewhere (on the left wheel arch)? Mine did not have the mount on the wheel arch. So, I want to know if I should fabricate one for that location.
Thanks

If your '65 was converted to 12 Volts, the voltage reg "can" be mounted on top of the generator if you drill a small hole near the brush opening and tap it for a small bolt such as M4 or M5. Likely the VR is already simply mounted to the vertical face of the fan shroud to the upper right of the gen backing plate using sheetmetal screws or a riv-nut. It's convenient but looks very "improvised". The '66 Ghia still had 6 V and had its VR mounted to the left side wheelwell hump because the new air cleaner hung over to the right and would block access if the VR would be mounted to the right wheelwell hump. If you are using the original '65 air cleaner which goes to the left, then you could install a VR bracket on the right hump for unimpeded access. And it would look reasonably "correct". The wires from the original mount at the top of the generator would easily be long enough for the right hump bracket location.
On my '64 Ghia Cabrio I planned from the start to use dual carbs, so that I moved the battery to under the rear seat in the Beetle location for better access to the right carb. I also removed the stock VR bracket from my '70 parts car and mounted it on the right wheelwell hump. |

My Ghia currently has a 1600DP with an alternator. But, I do have plans for a 1200. So, while I was doing the bodywork I wanted to know if I needed to weld on the bracket on the wheel arch and it seems that was only from 1966. So I am good for now. Thanks
