‘61-‘67 fuel tank fit ‘68 and later Beetle?

Want to fit a ‘61-‘67 tank in my ‘71 standard beetle. Strictly because I think it looks better. But do not have measurement for older tank or opening. Anyone swap out tanks before?

It will fit , you may have to shim it up a bit to clear the collapsing
section of the steering column. It worked in my 69 !
