Hi folks,
Do you know what I can do to to repair this part of the headlight reflector? This is for a 56' oval window beetle.
On one of the 2 reflectors it's made of metal whereas on the other (the broken one, encircled in red in the pictures) it seems to be rubber.
This piece is the point around which the reflector pivots for the light height adjustment.
Do you think it's possible to repair this? Any advice appreciated. |

Your photos didn't make it into your post. Are you talking about European spec headlamp reflectors, or USA spec ones?

The metal pivot is the older version while the one with the rubber pivot is more recent. I would just remove the broken rubber and put a new one in. I used a solid piece of rubber hose that I cut to the exact length. _________________ Oval 54 Light Beige, Oval 53 Metalblue. |

The non metal pivot appears to be either a non oval era assembly or a reproduction item. You might want to consider finding an original. _________________ Roads Scholar

...and as long as we're talking about headlamp reflectors, especially Euro spec bulb type chromed reflectors, can anyone recommend a source for new/NOS reflectors, or a source for re-chroming them? Thanks!

ReflektorKlinik in Germany. They do the correct original process of vacuum deposition of aluminum, which is more reflective than plating chromium over nickel. _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"

| i have made my own replacements many times . i think it was the braided VW vacuum line i used , just a short piece maybe 1 inch long , shove it in the hole then the adjuster piece fits into the vacuum hose hole like the original . now you can adjust it like always . |

look here , wolfsburg sells a repo piece similar to what i described . its just a short piece of hose , cheap rubber hose disintigrates fast so i use the braided stuff , it lasts for years .
now i dont know every year of headlight buckets bosch/hella but see if this help fix yours . #16 . i dont think mine was exactly like the diagram but it also used a similar piece of hose ......pretty sure one set of my headlights are repo but it still used the same little hose . your just creating a place for it to pivot when you turn the screw in or out .
