Just A Bunch Of Guys, the pit crew, spooning new General ATx 14" tires on dhaaver's van on his way down to Syncro Solstice. this was done in record time, 1 hour 10 minutes for 4 tires plus balancing. all by hand of course, with a Harbor Fright tire post and a vintage Coats M-76 bubble balancer. while i've had to return to a tire shop several times for improperly 'electronic' spin balanced tire failures, the bubble balancer has never failed me. always smooth.
Dave took the selfie, i'm studiously watching the bubble, the rest of the crew will remain confidential as they are under the Retirement Protection Program and haven't waived their consent release forms, unlike Dave H.

Jeez, that's like...looking in the mirror!!
I've bubble balanced more tires than I care to think about, and yeah using that 4-weight approach works extremely well if you're careful. I spent high school and all through college in service stations to make a living. Lordy but I mounted many a tire, I remember when we first got the Coats 1010, it was like Magic! To this day I have a serious love of NEW Tires, the look, the smell. Weird, but strange.
You're lucky to have a group of guys like that to hang with _________________ '86 Westy FAS GenV Turbo (Marvin) |

it's cool you noticed the *4* weights! you've BTDT. i love how one puts an excess of weight on the bubble and slide them apart until it is perfectly centered. works so well.
it's great to have the lads over for projects. i try to be a good host with a porketta in the garage oven, potato salad, buns, and Jameson! and we hit the one week in the year when the weather is warm enough for the overhead door to be open but without mosquitos. _________________ -dan
