Hi
I’ve removed a broken spring on a 77 Dual and had to drift out the axle stub it’s locked onto.
How do I reinstall it? Obvs I need to align the serrated slots but how do I then push the lever back onto the shaft? Tks.

This is a right hand drive bay for left hand traffic. Maybe someone who has worked on, or owned one will chime in. Most of our buses here in the US and Canada are left hand drive. There are some buses in Australia too that are right hand drive.
Might check with any clubs in the orange colored areas. Wish I knew more but have never been in one or worked on it.

Thanks.
This was a pain to reinstall. You need to marry up the serrated shaft with the serrated lever, all while looking thru a 2” inspection hole.
For reference, I marked the serrated sections on the end of the shaft and the outside of the lever so I could align them while looking thru the hole. After much shouting i managed to hammer the lever on using a 28mm impact socket and a short ½” extension bar. At the other end of the shaft I wedged a piece of wood to stop the shaft moving.
Refitted the bolt - do not forget to do this before fitting the spring. The spring itself is quite easy to fit - I used a seal puller initially then finished the install with a screwdriver. |
