Removing old sealant from back of cylinders

What is the best way to removing the old sealant from the sealing base of the cylinders. I was thinking on using a 3 M Scott Bright Pad? The cylinders have been honed and new rings installed stalled.

Yep,
Wire wheel on the bench grinder makes quick work of them. Just spin them in your hand, and work your way around.
