Hello everyone,
In my 1960 Beetle when I replaced the new accelerator cable, it seems to get stuck when I accelerate.
Under my foot I feel the pedal that does not flow smoothly and tends to get stuck or go jerky. I also hear a squeaking sound of metallic material that perhaps also comes from the other end of the cable.
Can anyone advise me what to check and how to try to solve it?
Thanks

Do you have the guide tube for the cable installed? If so I'd put it up on jackstands and crawl underneath while someone steps on the pedal to try to locate the problem.

It sounds like it's binding up somewhere. The guide tube should be a smooth surface for the cable to pull in and out through. I'd try disconnecting it from the pedal first and see if it's still rubbing by hand - it should be very easy to move by hand. Worse case, pull it back out and reinstall it to see if somewhere in the tube it was catching. Also inspect the cable when you remove it. Make sure it's not frayed somehow. Good luck!

Were the engine compartment seals replaced recently? Have a look where the cable passes back over the front engine seal

1960 was last model year for the type 1s having the throttle cable bracket to keep the cable from cutting into the transaxle nose cone.

More here on that and the later bowden throttle tube that could be installed in pre-1961 VWs.
