My best friend, my 14 year old cat named after my car an Austin Healey Sprite crossed over the rainbow bridge this morning. I didn't think it was possible to love her as much as I did as she adored me as I did her. We were best friends. I had been saying very long goodbyes for many weeks now and I am crushed. As she grew weak she still managed to tuck me into bed every single night as she has done for 14 years. She had a short yet aggressive cancer and my good friend said "I think she wants to go. She’s just sad that you can’t come. " It was a perfect choice of words for a very perfect cat.
As difficult as it was to say good bye and many friends offering to come with me I am glad I chose to do it alone as it was so very personal. We needed to share that moment together, just me and Sprite. I brought a small speaker, and played Jazz like we do at home in the room to comfort us both.
This video is of Sprite and her BFF Turbo which she loved to dominate in play. He would take any form of attention because he adored her too.
Love your pets like your people.

Sorry for your loss. Our little girl Stella (12 y/o) just put us through a scare. A kidney issue. The doctor said it’s a typical system of accidentally eating a ibuprofen. She’s all better now. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

My condolences Linda.
Loosing a feline friend can be tough.
We had 2 cats back in the early 90's, brother and sister.
They both suffered with feline leukemia and we had to put then down due to the silent suffering they were experiencing.
That was a tough time for us to get through.
Maybe god needed a feline friend to watch over him! I hope that is the case for "Sprite." _________________ I have learned over the years.

That was so beautifully written, she will obviously be dearly missed.
I’m so sorry for your loss of your best friend and companion.

So sorry for your loss, Linda. I lost my Bandit to cancer after 16 years. He was there to meet me when I got home, and was fixed to my hip till I left for work the next day. I was crying uncontrollably the whole way to the vet. This was may 10th of 2021 and I still miss that little guy everyday. I feel for you and what you're going through, just know Sprite is up there looking down on you pain free. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

My first cat lived 21 years. It was so weird realizing that I got her when I was in 6th grade. I hope our 3 now have long lives, as well.

Just read this, so sorry. I went through almost this same situation just a couple weeks ago. My best friend Kylie passed at 15 from some type of brain tumor.
She was an adventure kitty who liked to travel with us in our Westy.
Had to make the heart wrenching decision but it was for the best. Was with her to the end and she passed quietly in comfortable surroundings.
I understand how you feel, so many things will provoke memories and bring fresh tears. Time heals, but slowly. We have another kitty, but she's not the same, there will always be a hole no matter how much I love her.
Keep the best memories fresh and forget the poor days. _________________ Currently:

Sorry to hear ...
Just spent last 4days with my brown tabby Damian as he drew his last breath at 8:58am CST yesterday morn. He could barely flip over & refused food or water. He is next to our pastel calico Kali that went 2mos ago.
Both rescues & never outside.
His spot was always on my lap to the point of numb toes for me.
Yes he peed on me during those 4days. I didn't really mind cuz he gave me 14+ years of entertainment & unconditional love. Many laughs, too.
Vet thought he was almost 3yrs back in the cage at Petco.
I'll always miss the weight & warmth of him on my thighs.
Best feeling is to love and be loved.
Loss is never fun ... stay safe

Thank you kindly for comments and beautiful cat stories. I have finally changed my avatar with my dearest friend Sprite's best photo. She will always be in my heart.
It has been a stressful year with managing pet meds, the painful passing of friends and the illnesses of close family members pressing deeper into my wounds. I can't imagine what some of you are going through such as obus loosing his beloved wife and jspbtown's heroic daily challenges with cancer, as you are both in my mind.
Many years ago at a funeral an old man said to me our tears reminded us of our own losses in the past making it that much more painful. He was so right and I see it everyday. _________________ American Red Cross Safe And Well:

So sorry to hear - I will be an absolute wreck when it's time for my kitty to cross that bridge. It's hard to even write those words, Big hugs to you. |

Erik G, my advice, take lots of photos/videos. I've also bought a few books and created a journal to write to her. All of this feels very comforting. Time takes time.
Sprite, as a baby the first week with me. This is one of my most treasured videos.
