|
|
Installing entire front floor in 67 walk thru bus. I have the silverweld entire front floor piece PO included with it.
Seems one need to remove the heater tube to install the floor as a one piece unit. I was wondering if anyone tried cutting the new panel straight down the middle and installing it in two pieces? Or even just notch the entire section at the heater tree tube and avoid the mess removing that as well.
Thanks |

If the original floor is still good around the tube I’d notch it the Silverweld stuff is pretty true to the factory shape and thickness. If you slice it in half and try to seam it down the middle it will be very difficult to weld behind the heater tube later. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

The heater tube is only held together with a couple tack welds on each section.
Seems like a lot of work for no gain splicing/cutting around the tube; plus it will look like crap from underneath (if that concerns you). _________________ WANTED:

Is it possible to install entire floor with just the heat tube out and the e brake still intact? As my pin is frozen and don't want to open that can of worms on top of removing the heater tube.
How easy is it to remove the heater tube? Though in tact mine is heavy surface rust and fragile in a couple spots. Was thinking if I tried to remove them it might be worse then leaving intact. |

I installed mine with the parking brake in place. Only you can decide if taking the heater tube out is going to be more work than splicing it. I spliced around mine due to the heater tube still having good original paint on it. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Do you have any pics of thread when you did it? Did it turn out fine? I have done lots of floor patching up front but not entire floor. Just trying to take path of least resistance so to speak. I have seen a couple threads of folks doing it in one piece and seems it takes some work to get it fitted as a whole. Just seemed to me might be lot easier to cut down the center and fit half at a time but just an observation. Thanks |
