Distributor Short

Returned home last night from a 5000 mile trip to the East Coast and back home in a 1959 Beetle. Went out this am to check timing and I noticed there is a short as the timing light has a dull glow when I touch it to the block. I noticed points plate gave me a shock. It is an VJR 4BR8 mechanical advance distributor on a Stale Air 40 HP 1385 with 83mm pistons. Anyone have any Ideas what to check?

Make sure the clip on the bolt is not touching the breaker plate.

If it is then the engine won't run.

I took the nuts off of the bolt that hold the clip and moved and put everything back together and all was ok.
