This is my first attempt at a post to this group, so please be merciful should I unwittingly violate any rules.
I am looking for suggestions as to where and how to sell this 70 Bug. The owner (my brother in law) is recently deceased, and I have been asked to sell the car. He was in the process of having the car restored, and several months ago pulled it out of the restoration shop after several years and still not being done. It is about 95% completed, with body/paint/interior done. Missing things like the dash pad, some of the fresh air ductwork, some of the heater pieces under the back seat, etc. Runs and drives (sorry, no pictures), although I don't care for the paint scheme- a two tone light green over a light yellow. I have been through the receipts, and am looking at a way past insane amount of money spent to date. I had freshened the engine (new jugs, heads, and reseal) and replaced the fuel tank/sending unit/pump/carburetor before he took possession. Other than that, I do not believe any other mechanical work was done. This was a body off professional restoration, and the work looks decent.
I know we will be getting back but a fraction of what has been put in to it. I am considering an ad in the Samba classified section, but I don't even know what to consider for an asking price. Another consideration is my employer, an online auction site (Purple Wave Auction) which has recently gone national. The upside of the auction company is national exposure, they do all the work, the car is sold, and the surviving spouse is paid. The downside is that there is no reserve, so if it sells low there is no recourse.
Thoughts?
I am pretty well versed in the VW world, but this is new territory for me..... |

First step is you'll need to post pictures of what work has been done, plus what remains to be done, state and configuration of engine, suspension & wheels, interior, etc. _________________ 1971 Standard Beetle — fairly stock / driver

Bugs are 0.833 cents a piece, so don’t expect any Roi.
National exposure will just up your sales costs , sell it local
Put the receipts away, no buyer will care what someone else spent, especially on an incomplete non-runner.
You are talking $3000 here max _________________ 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🍊 🍊 🍊

I watch PW for small tractors and I’ve noticed the final prices, as you’re surely aware, really depend on what part of the country the item’s listed. How’s the VW scene out in your area, in say a 6-hr radius drive?
Lots of people don’t even know about this site and have vastly different ideas of what to look for in an aircooled VW. It’s common to see partially done restos listed for sale. _________________ Robert in Memphis
