I have a new to me 57 oval. I changed out the tires and being closer to the fender lip, I noticed a significant positive camber on the drivers side. Checked the beam with a digital angle finder on both ends and it showed dead on zero. Checked the vertical surface on the shock tower and I'm good there. Checked beam to floor and all is good. Pulled the hubcap and checked the camber with a straight edge and its 4 degrees positive! Pulled the spindle/king pin assembly , measured the offest at .220 and set up the 20 shims per chart. Reassembled and its still at 4 degrees. 4 degrees is almost 1/2" per 7"!!!!! Seems to me that the issue needs to be somewhere in the carrier/spindle area. Right side is good at positive 50 minutes.
Bent spindle? anything else I should look for when I take it back apart? Just another tidbit, I'm finding the work previously done in other areas of the the car, seriously subpar. Correcting issues as I find them.
Any help would be appreciated.

Bent control arm. Either top or bottom. See that a few times! Any witness marks from a side accident hit. Maybe even bent the beam? Seen that one too!
What do the bushings look like? If it were me, I would rebuild the stub axel assembly. All new bushings. Check the arms for straightness. There is a special tool. _________________ Jimbo

Have you seen a bent control arm and the offset be well within spec?
King and link pin bushings have a little play but not much. Nothing that would yield 4 degrees positive.
From my initial checking of the beam, it looks fine.
I'll probably pull it apart again this afternoon and check the 90 deg angle between the spindle and the plate it mounts on.
Best,

Nope. I have checked only those I suspected were bent. VW made some REALLY strong arms! They are REALLY stout! I have only checked them when I could not get the angle within spec. The shop I worked at had the jig to check the arms with.
Check out the tool listing for more options for checking! _________________ Jimbo

Jimbo,
Couldn't stand it any longer. Pulled the rotor, checked the vertical machined face on the spindle and the horizontal diameter on the spindle this morning. The numbers were .3 and 4.3 degrees respectively.
Bent BAD like maybe from a 45 deg curb hit.I would have posted photos but couldn't find a way to do a straight upload.
Now I can sleep better knowing, before my lift spindles get here.
Thanks for the input.
Best,

You bet, anytime! Glad you got it worked out! Those are the types of items that spring up and drive one crazy! _________________ Jimbo
