So I did a search on this and found a few topics leaning towards this discussion but never any specifics.
I just did an alternator conversion on an original 67 bus. I was able to fit the new stand and alternator into the generator slot without having to mess with the fuel pump and as such didn’t think to much about it. I know there’s two different lengths of them in relation to what you’re using. My question I guess is, is it really that big of a deal? Does it have to be switched? I ask as a preventative measure because before with the generator, the fuel filter would be half to 3/4’s full when parked and off. Now with the alternator and old style fuel pump it seems like the fuel filter is full and semi-pressurized. Would hate for that to lead to fuel lines popping off. Don’t laugh at me to hard, I realize that I may just be being a bit paranoid. Thanks to all in advance however! |

as long as it worked before ? and you didnt have to remove or mess with the pump your fine . its not effected . some modern alternator style pumps tilted to the side ( to give you room for the alternator ) still use the generator length rod .......if you didnt have to mess with that ? its still fine . or you may already have alternator stuff we dont know ?
there are more than 1 combination parts that can still work in a vw , you have to know what you have . a PIC of your pump goes a long ways might have helped but your already good here worry about something else LOL |

As long as you have the matching fuel pump push rod with the correct pump, all will be fine.
Hopefully you can remove the non-alternator pump without needing to remove the alternator, in some cases that can be done. IMHO the old rebuildable fuel pumps are a must to have over any one use and toss pumps.
Seen fuel filter half full or looking empty with engine running just fine. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
