Adding the thermostat cable to air cleaner on my ‘69 Bug. It was missing.
Looking for the clip that holds the spring end to air cleaner flap. (See photo)
Suppose I could try to make one but would like to get an original one if possible.

I believe that is my picture of my set up on my 69 bug. I got lucky when I found that clip from a 50 year VW parts guy. You should look up the part number of that clip and google it. You may get lucky.

That clips looks so much like a clip for a lever inside the door, used on many vehicles.

I believe this is the one you are talking about. Probably wouldn't work for the thermostat linkage on the air cleaner, but if WW carries this door rod lock clip, they may have the correct one for the thermostat linkage.

Alternatively, you might try using push nuts or a speed nut to hold the spring on.

A decent hardware store should have a variety of sizes to choose from.

The actual part number for that clip I believe is:

N23 601 1.

It was used on buses as well and for some ranges of T1 engines H,D,F,E,L.

I'm still looking for an NOS or used one here in Australia.

However for functionality the clip is very similar to carburettor clips that held the carburettor linkage on old GM cars here is Australia. I'm sure if you search GM car parts you might get some to work.

Here's an ebay link to some. They appear to be from the US so you should see them on your local site.

Here's also some generic ones available on Amazon that might be of correct size.

Thanks for all the feedback!
Will check out your suggestions.
I put the wire on yesterday and it seems to stay on pretty well without a clip of any kind. Maybe I won’t need one. Still might like to find an original one just to be authentic
