I wanted to share a few pics of my new to me '66. It's a LHD with 209 Double door/9 Seater option originally destined for Sweden brought over to the US 6 years ago. Somewhere over the years, it was converted to a weekender of sorts inside. I hadn't ever seen a double cargo door before, so I thought it was unique. 1600 motor, swing axle gearbox and front disc conversion. She runs and drives but not stopping too well at the moment so I'm looking through the brakes. It's patched up pretty good and nowhere close to stock inside, but it seems like it'll look nice for quite a while.

I like it!
Most double doors I’ve seen have been panels. A passenger version is definitely on the more unique side. If you really want to push the wow factor over the top get the original double flipper middle seat back in it. Expensive yes but it deserves to be back in this bus and it would be more rare than just about any other buses at the east coast shows. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Cool and Yes, it's uncommon (or rare) to see a Double Door Bus that's not a Panel.
Is it a Standard Microbus?
This would be model 221 or something that starts with a 22 or a 28 on the M-code plate
I see Deluxe belt trim but I believe that was added. _________________ How to Post Photos

It is 221. Some of the paperwork shows a seat belt purchase years ago so that's prob what you're seeing. I also found a note today that the new motor was put in less than 3,000 miles ago so that was kind of nice. As you'll see, it's far from when it left the factory! I'll get some interior pics up. It's a pretty crappy attempt at a weekender conversion.

Wow, nice ride and super nice listed original paint colors. Sure would be great to see it restored at least the body, wheels, and paintwise someday. Right now with present colors it is like taking the most beautiful looking and smelling flower, only to spray paint it metallic gold. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Seriously! As soon as Eric&Barb send their bank acct info, I'll make it whatever they want it to be... I do have the bumper and a roof rack to put on as well. Found a stuck PS front caliper stuck today so first things first. Wanted to make sure I could stop safely before taking it out of the neighborhood. The pics were after its first bath in 6 years.

Here's a short walkaround video with the doors open. I've got the front in the air with the wheels off so I couldn't back it out for better pics or slower video.

Defintely a nice ride as we posted before, but DPOs will do whatever DPOs do for the good or bad.
Our 1962 SO-34 westie the past owner extended the cabinet for a little more storage over the spare tire, result good.
On the other hand the same DPO installed a 120 volt AC Edison ceramic bulb base mounted on the side of the cabinet just beside the rear fold up/down seat. That bulb base is situated in such a way so most anyone adult size sitting in that seat would easily get a broken bulb in the left ear when riding down the road. Guessing for each road trip that bulb was stowed away elsewhere. Plus the hole in the cabinet for that base is a ugly ragged hole. Like the DPO could not afford a hole saw, so drilled and then used half round file to open it up, result bad. Only way to really fix that is to take off the white laminate on that whole side and replace it. Matching a new piece to that laminate even though it is a white will probably be near impossible. Pondering maybe changing the hole shape to something a little more decorative and insetting a piece of white translucent plastic with LED light set inside the cabinet would make the hole useful and at least somewhat camouflaged.
There were some other DPO modifications done to our SO-34 which were OK, or could have been done much better. Main big thing we have fixed the damage from the bus being flipped on the driver side by the DPO crumpling up the roof on that side. Need to get back to that project, and yes it is going to cost well over $2,000 just for the paint, red is pricey!!
As for Janice, its the OP's bus and up to that person as to run the colors it has for now, or forever, or perhaps when the time comes for new paint to return it to the original colors. We are just lamenting what the DPO had done to an unusual bus with special order options and the original special order two tone paint might have make it a unique bus. Out of all the DD buses still out on the road how many were ordered from the factory with two tone paint??? _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
