Have my engine out to repair oil leaks and decided to replace the clutch, PP and throw out bearing. 1969 Beetle with a Rancho Pro transaxle mated to a 2332CC engine. The old throw out bearing in the car has markings that show "Brazil - RDC-1DC6 (6R5)? This old part looks very similar to Empi part # 32-1205-B. I bought a brand new Sachs German/Italian part (111-141-165A / 3151-600-786) as the replacement part.
When placed side-by-side, it is obvious that the old T.O.B. is taller than the newly purchased one (25.88mm vs 20.45mm).
Witness marks can be seen on my Pressure Plate where the old T.O.B. was making contact with the metal ring. The new Sachs part actually has more surface area contact to the PP ring than the old Brazilian part.
My thinking is that the clutch cable wing nut can simply be adjusted to make up for the 5mm size difference.
Question for the Samba crowd is whether or not this will actually work out with simple adjustment. Last thing I want is to put this all together and find out the hard way that these parts are incompatible.
Thanks a million for the education. Irish 31.

Kid are you ready for the wild ride?
There's an early and a late style throw out bearing. Here's where it gets wild: Your '69 had the late style bearing. Original bearing should be F&S Germany early style. Looks like your vendor sent you the early style.
Don't mix them up.
Early style clutch up to '71 uses the early style bearing.
Late style clutch '71 and up uses the late style bearing.
Your throwout bearing is only loaded when you depress the clutch either at a stop light or to shift gears. The bearings are astonishingly long lived especially the German bearings.

actually, those are both early style. The domed one is just an "incorrect" reproduction piece. Incorrect in that it is not identical to the German original, but works the same
your new one is also correct and will work just fine with a small cable adjustment as you mention.

This is incorrect for your application. Very bad advice.

They are both early style throwout bearings
The new one more closely resembles the original |
