1302s steering box is leaking. Is this repairable/worth it to repair or should it be replaced as a new unit?

Depends on how big the leak is, assume you've tightened stuff some already.

Super Beetle steering boxes are quite expensive new....

my 51 had a pretty good drip after filling it with 90 wt gear oil . till i added John Deer Corn head grease . its what they use in tractors , thin enough to work but too thick to leak . read up on it . i bought some seals gaskets n such but it doesnt look like an easy rebuild so i went this rout .

i took it out , turned upside down and drained it first . its green LOL

Cutting seals from cardboard is not terribly hard.

If the seal is the only issue: repair.

if its chewed up internally: replace

If the quality of aftermarket boxes is anything like the rest your box shouldbe repaired if possible.

If it’s a VW steering box, rebuild it. Nothing “NEW” will be better.
Parts are available from vendors like WW and VWNOS.

Plenty of tutorials in the forum and YT.

Good Luck

I think he might have a Super Beetle box. If so most of my parts are for standards.
