I have a '69 cobalt blue bug that was repainted at some point in it's life, with a close to stock color. I dig the patina vibe it has going, but with each wax job to remove the quickly accumulating oxidation, I'm removing more and more paint and seeing it get thinner, just in less than a year with 3 wax jobs. It always looks great again after a wax, until the oxidation comes back. I'm using Griot's Garage wax.

The big problem is that the bug sits outside. What are some recommended ways to protect the paint from oxidizing so quickly, and any ideas on what I can do to help the paint last as long as possible?

Heard about Poppy's Patina, but still looking in to that option. Any opinions on it? I'd remove it all to original paint, but there was some body work on the passenger side rear panel, right in front of the rear fender, under the pop-out window, so don't think it would be such a great idea at this current point.

Pic is my bug after a wash and wax.

Thanks!

Howdy ...

Try some "paint correction" videos on U-tube.
From my limited knowledge preserving paint is a multi stage process. Especially single stage over 50 years old.

Clean
Clay bar
Moisturize
Protect

Being over aggressive can cause damage.
Heard good things about Griot's from TV ads during car shows. Different types of polishes AND grits of foam pads - lots to research.

Elbow grease not included ... stay safe
