I'm hooking up a fan for my external oil cooler which is approximately 25w 2amp and wondering if it would be safe to get my 12v switched power from coil 15 terminal? I'd be running a wire from there to a fuse and to positive of fan

Thanks

I would not, I would use a relay to power the fan and get the 12v+ from somewhere else.

Thanks Glenn, In that case would you run the coil 15 to the positive trigger of relay and maybe I take my 12v hot source from main battery cable going to generator? I was planning on just running a positive switched wire from dash but was trying to avoid the long run and also getting from inside the cabin into the engine bay.

Understood but I guess I'm still confused. You're saying run relay 30 from battery but where should I run the switched trigger power relay 86? Since it's just the switched power can I run that from coil 15? My whole problem here is trying to find a switched 12v in the engine bay otherwise I'd have to do a full run from dash

use the power at your ignition switch, key on for power to your toggle switch / trigger to power the relay, main power to relay should come from the battery with a fuse. only things that should be hooked to the 15 at the coil is the idle solenoid and choke and the lead to the backup lights if equipped.

I would get power from the battery, use a thermo switch, on the output of the cooler, to trigger the relay.

That way the fan can run with the engine off and the key off. It will turn off when the cooler temps drop below 180*.

If you're asking if you can use the coil as the switched power source for the relay trigger. You can but its not recommended.

You can do whatever you want, its your car.
If you're asking us the right way to do it, the coil route is not the right way of wiring a fan circuit.

Google search radiator fan wiring circuit. Its all there.

Thanks all, I'm going to run a separate switched wire from the dash for the relay trigger
