Waited for install of 914 headers.. and my key won't turn

The shop I went to has a long waiting history and today was my day.
My ignition key went in but won't turn.

I freaked out. After trying what now a Tow Truck ?? In the past I took the wheel off and got it to run. That was on a 67 my car is a 74. I shot some oil in a keep trying. Then I heard a Click and it started.

Now for the What if ---- I guess the same as the 67. I left the key in till I can get some info on it happens again..

I would first try some lock lubricant designed for locks and see if it helps. By the way 67 type 1 bugs in the US market had ignition switch in the dash not in the column unless it was switched out later.
