One of the arms on my throw out bearing shaft in my '68 broke. Since it needs to be replaced, is there any advantage to converting my clutch components to the '71 and up newer style?

I don't know if there is an advantage of one vs the other. Recently I bought a rebuilt trans and forgot to specify it was a late with guide tube. Box that showed up was a 1970 case I believe? No collar. I used one of the adapter kits:

That kit saved me from having to replace the pressure plate etc. Been working great for few thousand miles so far.

If you have a stock engine, I wouldn’t bother. Just get a heavy duty arm and be done.

I guess the advantage would be that there would be less of a chance of the release bearing falling of the shaft. I have always thought that the later pressure plate without the center ring engaged a little smoother. Good luck

Does your transaxle have the bungs to drill the 3 holes that hold the centering sleeve?

Glenn, it does not. But I don't think I'd need them if I use this conversion kit from Kustom1, or am I wrong?

I'd like to switch it over. I agree with Bob, it seems like the newer style is a better design.

That kit looks like it would work; it doesn't appear to need 3 holes to be drilled and tapped, like my own 1970 would if I chose to upgrade with STOCK 1971 parts.

1970 transmission has "ears" which could be drilled and tapped:

Aaaaah, THOSE ears. I was looking online to see what Glenn was talking about and didn't see anything. I definitely don't have those on mine.
