I bought my throttle cable from Small Cars.. apparently they bend the 2 tabs to grab the front end of the cable housing. I went to a motorcycle shop and bought a clutch/brake cable adjuster, put it in the first hole, trimmed back the cable housing to length, and my accelerator hasn't worked better. I'm surprised they don't include one of these in the kit, it makes perfect sense. Hopefully this helps someone else... it only took me a few years to figure it out!!

what year van do you have, l only use SC throttle cables, l do modify them in a different way, l can't picture the two tabs you have there, if l remember the SC cable has the stock mount {over the belhousing} at the bracket closest to the throttle body, so you have to drill a half in hole through that bracket, l split their outer cable where they join it, and throw that last bit away, and join on stock subaru throttle cable sleeves, a 5/16'' piece of fuel line will join them nicely so debris doesn't get in there and put the steel cable back through it, now you have a cable that looks factory, and works like factory.

This is a 1987 Syncro Westy. The 2 tabs are about 12" behind the gas pedal, under the bus. My problem was when you stepped on the gas pedal, the slack of the cable from the back bell housing area to the gas pedal would tighten, but not rev, until you pushed the pedal further down. Now the original pedal with original vw hardware works perfect and snappy!

that makes sense, as to why l've not noticed those pieces, you are missing pieces, there's a cover over the bottom of the throttle pedal, the main sleeve, l think it's white, should go through those brackets, into a long grommet, and into the cover.

Here is a photo from another bus.. I have everything in the purple circle (Orig. VW Linkage) the 2 tabs I am referring to have 2 red arrows pointing to them.

This photo isn't my bus, just found it to show the location of the 2 tabs..

I've used a small hose clamp in the same position, tightened around the throttle cable housing (but not TOO tight), to prevent migration of the SC housing. Has worked well for 22 yrs.
