I cannot identify this part bolted to frame, and attached to the rear spring plate... I already installed the camber compensator, this setup, one on each side is not even centered on the frame, looks like some old type of setup? 1962 pan for the buggy.
thoughts?
Appreciate it!

Another example of wrongheaded engineering. It can't work so just take it off. The inner pivot point needs to be inline with the outer pivot point. In other words, the inner pivot point needs to be rotating around the torsion tube not rotating behind the torsion tube. |

Stiffener, wishbone concept.... Would probably be better if it were a heim joint at torsion bar tube and not just a bolt.... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns"

Thanks for the "reasonable " response. I have looked extensively online...I could not even find another example! Being a 1962 pan, 1968 1600cc dual port, always an opportunity to change! A long long upgrade project.
Thanks Dale!

Remove the pivot bolt from the inner end and then compress and extend the suspension while watching the the inner pivot. You will see the inner end of the new trailing arm is no where near the tab it is supposed to be attached to. That setup will create a huge bind in the suspension. |

That was sold years ago as an attempt to control the wide camber swings on the swing axle suspension. I see the bolt up at the torsion tube on yours is loose so that makes the whole rig of no effect. All it will do now is rattle!
I really have no idea if they actually worked as advertised but I think the idea was to put the suspension in a bit of a bind at the extremes of travel thereby limiting excessive camber change. Sort of a semi IRS fix. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Appreciate the info! It looked like a type of compensator, but it was not bolted evenly, just extra weight. I've been working for three years on the buggy off and on to make the buggy worth the huge price I paid for it when I sell it. Now...I just rebuilt the pedal box with clutch extender, very nice, but pulled off the pushrod boot, and can't put back, so now replacing the brake master with a German one from Jbugs...and on and on...going to likely have the E-stop electric ebrake installed by a custom shop in town....thanks again!!
