Used ones, yes; new ones, no. Look in the classifieds.

Now if you're wanting hardware or a replacement knob, yes, those are available.

Thanks, i got a fast fab gauge mount where the radio blank is, i was thinking of moving the sPod mount down to the ashtray. But I didn’t want to drill that one up.

Maybe I’ll see if I can 3d print something.

ya i see lots of original ones in the classifieds that sit flush 10 to 50 clams .

now i have a trick to clean up old ashtrays like these . the face plate you can just paint if ya take the knob off . now toss the main part in to a small bucket or bowl , just enough water to cover the item of warm water with citric acid , just a table spoon will do .........let it sit for 15 minutes or so , take it out n rub it down with #4000 steel wool , its the finest you can buy . see if it needs a longer soak ? if so toss it back in or it may be good .....the citric not only softens rust but all the black ash crap in the bottom of the tray , ya you got it rub it good its not magic , but often they practically look like new after a soak n rub or two ........ if you have a rusty piece of crap it might take over night , but the next morning after a rub down the rust will all be gone .......

another thing I did to my ash tray...drilled a 1/4" hole in the top of the 'receiver', soldered a stock dash lamp base to the 'receiver' so the light would be right over the hole. Glued a piece of clear plastic over the hole (keep smoke out of the trunk). Connected the wire to the other dash lights...now I have a lit ash tray. Cool

you can see the lamp base in this photo

Awesome. I’ve got a soft spot for hounds, got two Redbones, a Beagle, and a Weimaraner mix. They are out in the shop with me every day “helping” me restore my ‘66 sedan. That is, if barking at everything- and nothing- or napping right where I need to be next helps.

I'm printing that pic out to use as inspiration to wire my beetle better!

Also, I did order an ashtray from the classifieds. I'll probably drill the aftermarket one I have and paint the one I got to match.

I rewired it the way the Germans should have done it if cost wasn't an issue. In the photo you'll notice my main wiring harness goes into a EMT conduit to under the rear seat on the passenger side where the battery is. Main reason I did that way was the replacement heater channels didn't have the two holes for the harness to pass thru as shown in the photo.

I use only T&B crimp connectors. They are tin plated copper. Close up of how I installed a brake light test connection. Put 12v on it to see if the lights or the switch is the problem.
