Hi all,
I'm based in the UK and just recently got myself another Beetle.
It's got quite a history to it being 1967 1500 model, originally from Austria but imported in 1990 and converted to RHD.
Was customised heavily with a 2276cc engine, Rancho Pro Street gearbox etc.
Generally goes great and i'm really enjoying tinkering with it.
My only bugbear is the speedo is still in KM/H instead of MPH.
I've managed to source a NOS one which i'm giving a once-over and planning to set the odometer to match the old one.
I know that technically all historical records (DVLA in the UK for MOTs) show mileage as KM but i'd rather keep no gaps in the history so i'm just thinking of setting it the same as the old one.
What do you think?
Another thing, does anyone recognise the current speedo I have?
It seems like it could be rare as I realise it's not the usual style.
Maybe it was specific to Austria and a one-year-only?
Wondering what it's value might be as I planned to sell it after I swap it for a standard MPH one.
Thanks |

@finster thanks that confirms it then!
Just not seen one like it before. Shame to get rid of it as I like the style of it, but my new one means I won't have to keep using GPS on my phone to know what speed i'm doing here in the UK. |

or plan B - use stickers... then there's no change in the odometer.

X2.
I've never seen the '68-up font/colors on a 67-down style (no gas gauge). Cool! _________________ Current Fleet:

This type of speedo design was used for type 111 beetles ("Sparkaefer") with 6 V, without electric fuel gauge from 8´67 to 7´71 in "metric areas" . (type 111 beetles had electric in 6 V as standard and no electric fuel gauge, but a fuel tap till 7´75) |

A completely aside question.
If you have the wrong speedo, i.e. kph v mph or vice versa can the face just not be removed by removing the needle and the screws and be swapped over?
It seems on the older model 50mph seems to line up with the 80kph which would make it right. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery
