The windows roll up and down - no issues.
These images show the mystery cable on the passenger side w/the window in the up/down position and the cable seems to end behind the door release handle - ditto for the drivers side.
So, what is their function?
Sunday/funday,

It's where the other end of the lift cable goes when it's not in the main track.

what 'operates' the window is a spring wounded cable. Your photo shows the end of that spring wound cable. The rubber disc keeps the cable from banging around inside the door. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia
