I am in Madison, WI and have a 1967 beetle, almost completely unmolested. I am looking for reliable shops that can do air-cooled VW upholstery and interior work/restoration. Ideally I am looking for shop in south-central Wisconsin, especially in the Madison or Milwaukee areas. Shops in northern Illinois would also work.
Specifically, my beetle needs replacement horsehair seat pads in front, vinyl seat covers put back on throughout, new carpet kit installed, some re-glueing of headliner at the edges, and help with restoring the area below the headliner in back below the rear window. Also would like back pop-up windows installed, new door and window rubber installed, plus a few other items. I have most all of the parts referred to above (from Wolfsburg West).
Thanks very much for any suggestions you have! |

Why not try it yourself? Sewfine and TMI have high quality interior kits. I personally have used sewfine a couple of times.
This was before..
And aftter..

I also suggest doing most of it yourself. The headliner work can be a little tricky, but the rest of it is pretty straight forward for most people.
What color is your interior? I'm looking for certain original interior pieces for a 67, so I might be interested in some of your scraps! _________________ Parts needed:
Front & rear NOS or used OEM door panels for a '67 in the original Gazelle color (dark tan/light brown).
Also looking for used white headliner pieces, both perforated and non-perforated. |

Headliner is tricky, but not impossible. I did mine on my 63. I used sewfine, just like the bus. If you take your time, you can do it. I had to walk away a bunch of times. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it. I do have to do the sunroof section again, but I just haven't had the time.

Hello nice to meet you "neighbor" I am just north of Madison and I also have a 67.
Percy's in Madison may know who to contact for interior work. They work on vintage VWs for decades and is a go to spot.
I also saw https://www.midwestengineservice.com I don't know much about them but they may be another place to contact to be pointed in the right direction.
If you haven o luck there there are a few WI VW groups on facebook. most are more north but may be in the know of where you can take it. Good luck. |
