For several years now everytime I go to drive my split bus or beetle one or more idle jets are plugging causing it to run terrible. I dont drive either car often, usually every few weeks but in theory those idle jets shouldnt plug just sitting there. The carbs are completely rebuilt, cleaned with good fuel going though them. I added a 30 micron fuel filter followed by a 10 micron to the fuel delivery before the carbs. This shouldnt have mattered relative to the idle jets because they just flow air but I did it anyway to cross off that potential problem off the list. Next I bought the jet doctor kit from CB Performance and installed them and went to high quality K&N air filters. its been 3 months now and not a single idle jet plugged. for the low cost of the jet doctor kit I highly recommend trying this if you are always having to clean your jets. |

A lot of us (myself included) are guilty of not oiling the filters properly. Even with good fuel filtration, the carbs will slowly build up gunk if it evaporates from sitting for a while.
The jet doctor is a good idea. I've also heard of people using a kill switch on the fuel pump and running the carbs dry when they park. _________________ Barndoor Mafia
