I can't see paying almost a grand for a Ghia roof rack, so I bought one from Harbor Freight and some gutter mount hardware I found on Amazon. The rack was $85 after a 15% coupon and the mounting hardware was $87, so after taxes, I was all in for $180. It was too long for a Ghia, but I left the center piece out, cut some scrap tubing to go in the inside, drilled 4 holes and screwed it together. It was almost a bolt on, other than having to drill one hole in each of the mounts to attach them to the rack using 4 two hole mounts used for mounting electrical conduit to walls, they came in a 5 pack for less than 3 bucks at Lowe's. I was gonna paint it argent sliver, but I kinda like how the black contrasts with the yellow. My car cover even still fits, sorta, kinda. It's not exactly vintage, but I have an extra 800 bucks in my pocket!

That rack looks great on your car. Nice work and I am sure you can find somewhere else on the car to spend the 800 bucks. |
