|

Hey knowledgeable peeps,
I was working on my '75 Standard Beetle today, took the sunroof out, cleaned it up, put in new sunroof seals and encountered an issue that I can't figure out how to resolve. I have all the adjustments done and noticed the right rear doesn't pop up into the full "locked" position. IE: the "pop up" mechanism on the cable doesn't go to a full 90° leaving that right rear slightly lower than the left side when the sunroof is fully closed.
Pictures for clarity:
Drivers side:
Passenger side:
So what is the trick to fixing this? It is as if the right side cable is a tooth or two off, but would that really matter? If I try to really close it hard with the crank, I will just skip a cable tooth and it doesn't go any further to 90°.
Previewing this, I noticed the position of "pop up" mechanism on the right is about 3/4" further back on the leaf spring compared to the left side. Is this indicating the right side cable is not adjusted/installed correctly?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

The lower pic seems to show the leaf spring not fully engaged with that barrel.

Cable timing does matter.
If it refuses to go over center to vertical loosen that nut and move it down in that slotted hole a little, both lifters should be synchonised and forcing it so it skips is asking for trouble. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I think I figured it out. I measured the cable distances on each side and the right side was further back than the left, so the "cable timing" was out of adjustment. I got the two sides into alignment, bent the little metal tabs under the plastic cover to hold more pressure onto the cog wheel and I believe that will correct my issue. It got to hot in the sun yesterday afternoon, I will finalize this later today, much cooler in the NW today. _________________ '89 Westy - EJ25/22 Frank 4.44 5mt
