Hello all.
I need a little help. I recently purchased a modelyear ´56 (From vin reading, I have found out two different info, manufacturing date in june 1955 and other that says aug/sept 1955, no semaphores, just bullet turn signals) but having hard time figuring out the engine code.
Car vin is 1-0975659 and engine code 3864445. From what I see this is not it´s original engine, or at least I think so. Is there anyone who could break it down for me? |

At the top of this page click on “ technical”. Go to “vin and chassis numbers.”. Click on “Type I “ for Beetle. There you will find your desired information. Numbers listed are for the last of the month.
Looks like your engine is from June of 1960. To be anywhere near the original engine it would need to start with 1-0. _________________ Roads Scholar

september 55 according to vin number - last vin in august was 1-0953 486 and last vin in september was 1-0981 573. your engine number should be between 1-1150 857 and 1-1182 658 you can also check the body and other numbers from the chart. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut
