I didn't catch the date/locale for the auction, but this was an odd one. Listed as 1975, it has the early Bus low front signals, older hubcaps on later rims, and despite the squared mounting location, early taillights, plus late louvers.
Either not a USA model, or a frankenstein repair job?
It didn't sell at $20K.

Reverse lights below the tail lights too. I'd guess Frankenbus. _________________ 1968 Deluxe "Clipper L" Type 2

Looks like a β72 with early bay back up lights and euro tail lights mounted over the covered rectangular late bay tail lights. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I'd like to know what that is because of the tail light area seemingly pressed for the 72 and up taillights but used with with the odd configuration of older tail lights with lower back ups. Who would go to the trouble to create this? Maybe a 75 bus owner who is a bodyman and always wanted a 71 but liked the earlier hubcaps, but disliked the back up lights position? Whew. Someone out there may know. I am guessing Brazilian. |

Dumb bus built by dummies to sell to dumb buyers, it doesn't even count as a "tribute". It seems Mecum buyers are smartening up, although there's still at least two holdouts if it made it to $20K. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Yep. Built for the non VW enthusiast.
Surprised they didn't paint the "V" on the front. _________________ 1968 Deluxe "Clipper L" Type 2

It didn't sell for $20k? That's a bargain at $5k for every VIN welded together, especially if it came with all the titles. _________________ One-on-one tech help for your vintage Volkswagen:

It's glossy and also has a roof rack. So, that means it's cool. It would be worth more if it came with a surfboard that has a peace sign on it. |

Lots of effort that could have gone into a real bus and not franken bus. To be candid, there are a lot of buses here on this forum I would buy before that one. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |
