I made a nice repo of the continental bed using the kit supplied by NLA VW in the UK.

I adapted the kit to be more in keeping with the original design to keep the folding pillow rather than having a bit of wood fly about the roof section.

I bought the the kit second hand and one of the rear brackets was missing so I had a friend fab up a near perfect copy.

Awesome bed! I’ve been wanting to build one like this for my bus. I’m guessing there’s little to no padding on the bed, so sleeping mats needed?

Most of the smaller part were sourced from NLAVW in the UK.

The bed brackets to hold the bed when in the raised position are split West 90 degree brackets bent flay in the vice and widened with a jack handle.

It seems that I cannot do anything or go anywhere without being recognised by someone, especially on Canvey Island (population was just over 38,000 in 2021), Essex, England, where my father was a general medical practitioner [M.B., Ch.B., D.R.C.O.G.] for 24 years from 1965 to 1989.
