|
|
Hey Folks, I installed these Z-bed hinges today:
http://www.busdepot.com/zbed
All is well, but what are these brackets supposed to do? The instructions aren't really that helpful:
"When in bed position you may want to use the rear support folk which in bays just slots into the small bar where you seat fits into." (That's as written, spelling and all..)
That really doesn't help me. What are these things and where do they go? Anyone have any pictures?

folk? slots?
my guess is that the fork sides into the factory tabs.
when your rear seat is now able to move up and forward, look at the slanted tin going from the floor to the cargo area where the engine access is (if you are post 72) on this slanted rear wall tin, are factory tabs/inserts for the factory bench.
this is a guess, and I will hunt for a pic to make my thought clear.

Hmm.. it appears my 78 doesn't have that bracket, but it might be a good idea to weld one on when I am sufficiently motivated. _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI

Man, hate to say it but I couldn't find any reference to these clips in those Youtube links.
It does look like they're supposed to slide into a bracket as alman72 posted, just my bus doesn't have one. Everyone on Youtube just unfolds the bed and doesn't mess with the bracket. _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI

seeing the Zee industries bed sits FLUSH with the rear cargo area it is a "kick stand' to support the top edge of the seat with the edge of the bulkhead.
unless you're giving your partner the pakistani pile driver it's probably not needed _________________

Wow, I posted that a while ago.
The above is correct - It's supposed to support the seat back. I still have not welded in a bracket to do so. I really should do that soon. _________________ '78 Bus 2.0FI

Thanks! As i'm not native in english i had to google this one up and according to urban dictionary's definition, this maneuvre seems quite awkward and uncomfortable so i'm safe to say it's unlikely to happen in my bus. Most likely will leave them unused.
In my late model '73 9-seater bus there are two factory tabs in the slanted tin area that the back rest is bolted in to, but the brackets would need modification to fit. I will post pics of the solution if i ever get there. |

I finally broke down and bought these from busdepot for my 75 bay window tin top. I asked for the full instructions before buying but they never sent them so I am posting it here in case it could help anyone and in case anyone has done it and has tips to help me.

Thank you for posting it. They are basically the same instructions that Z-Products of N. Hollywood CA (now defunct) gave when they made and sold the kits. I think that the owner, Tim as I recall his name, sold the plans and misc left overs to Ron at BD. The kit is good, I have had one in both buses I owned. It worked incredibly well when camping or traveling and you just need to lay down and get some sleep in a KOA or something. Last time we used the bed we went to Yosemite and took our large tent. But somehow I packed the poles somewhere else so we had to sleep in the bus. The only problem with having the bed is that the spare tire takes up too much room. You will either end up with it on the floor, chained to the bus when you sleep, or or on the nose of the bus, where it will do some damage over time. Were the nose of my bus not like it just left the factory, I would have a nose mount like I had on the 1971. _________________ George Carlin:
